Pakistan’s envoy survives assassination attempt in Kabul

Pakistan’s head of diplomatic mission in Kabul survived an assassination attempt on Friday after a security guard saved his life but received multiple bullet wounds during the process.

According to a private TV channel, Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani was on a walk at the time of attack. The security guard, it is said, was shifted to a hospital after he received three bullets in his chest.

It is also reported that the envoy and other officials are being called back to Pakistan temporarily.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, without providing any details, condemned a “dastardly assassination attempt” on the head of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Kabul.

In a tweet, the prime minister saluted the security guard for his bravery and said he took a bullet to save his life. “Prayers for the swift recovery of a security guard.”

“I demand immediate investigation and action against the perpetrators of this heinous act,” Shehbaz added.

Nizamani, who took charge on November 4, is the current Pakistani charge de affairs in Afghanistan.

It’s a developing story. Details to follow.
