Punjab is witnessing an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 patients, with over 8,000 patients admitted to the hospital over the last few days. Nabeel Awan, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary, revealed that the rate of admitted patients had doubled in the last four weeks.

Hospitals are attempting to increase patient capacity on account of the alarming surge in COVID-19 patients, Awan reported.

The government official also stated that the government had refused the Punjab government’s proposition to enforce a complete lockdown.

In the last 24 hours, 5,312 people tested positive for COVID-19 while 105 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). Most casualties were seen in the province of Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The number of critical patients in Pakistan stand at 4,116.
