Prime Minister Imran Khan Sunday urged the masses to adhere to anti-COVID SOPs saying the third wave of the pandemic was far more dangerous than the first two. He reiterated that the country could not afford a complete lockdown.

“Hospitals are filling. People are being put on ventilators or oxygen. We are the nation that was exemplified during the first wave (for our discipline). God forbids, our hospitals will fill to their capacity if it continues to spread with the current rate,” the prime minister said in his televised message to the nation.

The prime minister, who is in quarantine for testing positive for COVID-19 a week ago, told the people that he remained safe during the first two waves as he had duly observed the precautions.

During the first two waves, he neither attended any wedding ceremonies nor visited any restaurant and also kept wearing the mask. However, during the Senate polls, he could not adhere to the SOPs which led to his infection, he added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan is making steady clinical recovery from COVID-19 as his lab parameters and vital signs have remained stable.

Special Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Faisal Sultan informed in a tweet that the premier will resume work and routine in line with national and international guidelines.

A week ago the first lady, wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi had also tested positive for COVID-19. The news came after the premier had already tested positive for the virus earlier. The couple contracted the virus merely days after the premier was administered the first dose of vaccine against the viral infection.

Dr Sultan has informed the public that the prime minister went into self-isolation at his Banigala residence after testing positive for the infection. In the initial stages of the infection he had a slight fever with cough.

The premier had shown symptoms of the virus on the same day he was administered the first dose of the vaccine. His second dose of the vaccination was still pending, confirmed the health ministry spokesperson.
