The Lahore High Court (LHC) has approved the bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khawaja Asif on Wednesday in a case pertaining to money laundering.

Asif, who was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in December last year, moved the high court for relief on May 27.

In December 2020, NAB had arrested the PML-N leader from Ahsan Iqbal’s house in Islamabad. “Evidence collected so far prima facie reveals that you established a housing project – namely Kent View Housing Society Sialkot – which has been operating illegally,” NAB’s call-up notice at the time had said.

The NAB had alleged that the PML-N stalwart illegally sold plots over the approved layout plan of 137 kanal in collaboration with the management of a housing society owned by him. It had claimed that the PML-N leader in “connivance with revenue authorities obtained relevant approvals even though society was in the state land’s illegal occupation”.
