Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on his maiden visit to the country on the special invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser to Prime Minister (PM) on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razaq Dawood, and Special Assistant to the PM for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari.

Landing at Bandaranaike International Airport, Prime Minister Imran Khan was warmly received by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and given a 21-gun salute.

He then headed to the Temple Tree, the Prime Minister’s residence, for a one-on-one conversation between the two premiers.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is the first Head of Government to visit Sri Lanka since Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed office last year.

His programme includes meetings with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. He will also lead the delegation-level talks, covering all areas of cooperation between the two countries, including trade and investment, health and education, agriculture and science and technology, defence and security, and culture and tourism. Besides bilateral matters, views will be exchanged on key regional and international issues.
