Prime Minister Imran Khan gives great importance to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that will be bring prosperity to Pakistan and the region.

Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Secretary Mathar Niaz Rana said while talking to Ambassador of China to Pakistan Nong Rong who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday. Matters related to bilateral relations, projects under CPEC and progress of upcoming 10th JCC came under discussion. Additional Secretary Planning and senior officials attended the meeting.

The Secretary said Prime Minister Imran Khan is very keen that the CPEC be completed at the earliest as it is a project of great significant for Pakistan and the region.

Pakistan, in consultation with the government of China, has succeeded in expanding CPEC scope to include other priority areas under its framework including socio-economic development, poverty alleviation, agricultural and industrial cooperation, he added.

Secretary Rana said the second phase of the project will focus, among others, on welfare projects for the betterment of the people of Pakistan and “we are thankful to the government of China for broadening its framework which will contribute to the sustained development of Pakistan.”

He reiterated that the Pakistan government remains fully committed to realise the potential and opportunities under CPEC framework.

Ambassador Nong Rong said that the CPEC is heading in the right direction, adding that it is the flagship project that manifests the longstanding friendship between the two friendly countries and will bring prosperity and progress to Pakistan. CPEC is a product of vision of two brotherly countries that goes beyond traditional business dealings reflecting decade’s old strong bonds of bilateral cooperation and shared goals with win-win situation for all.

He stressed that the project will continue to progress on expedited pace.

The two sides expressed satisfaction on the meetings of Joint Working Groups (JWGs) held in the recent weeks, for various sectors.
