Peshawar sees alarming rise in crimes including murders, robberies

There is an unprecedented rise in crimes in Peshawar, with the number of killings and robberies already surpassing the last year’s figures, thus making the people’s lives miserable.

In this scenario, the grave nature of the situation can be gauged by the fact that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is now witnessing more and more terrorism incidents as people are fearing the return of Taliban.

According to a private TV channel, 316 people were killed in 2021, but the figures for the first nine months of the current year reached 390. Moreover, the number of attempted murder cases stands at 672 which was 457 last year.

Similarly, 282 robberies (dacoities) have been reported during the same period while the numbers for the entire last year were 169.

On the other hand, the number of theft cases during the period of January-September in Peshawar has climbed up to 248 against the last year’s figures of 163.

As far as bike snatching is concerned, last year saw 62 cases while the number of cases has reached 56 while the 192 bike thefts have been reported against the 248 cases during the last year.

Meanwhile, there were 12 car snatching cases last year but the first nine months of the current year saw 19 incidents.  

It is also reported that 21 children were kidnapped last year but the first nine months of 2022 saw 20 similar incidents. The cases of car thefts have jumped to 189 in the same period against the last year’s total of 143.

Meanwhile, the number of cases concerning missing persons has jumped to 22 till September which was 12 last year.

It does not stop there as citizens in Peshawar are also experiencing an alarming rise in streets crimes including mobile snatching despite the fact that an 800-strong Ababeel Force is working the provincial capital to tackle the very problem.
