Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has said that the government will soon send a plane to China to get the first consignment of coronavirus vaccine.

The announcement came after a meeting held at the National Command Operation Center (NCOC) presided over by Dr Sultan.

Dr Faisal termed it a significant step and said that the government is committed to protest the people.

A day ago, he had said that the government would provide the vaccine free of cost.

Speaking at an online workshop, he said that it is the government’s priority to provide quality healthcare to the masses.

He stressed on creating awareness regarding coronavirus and added that people should follow SOPs just like they did during the pandemic’s first wave.

He said that China had donated 500,000 doses of the vaccine to Pakistan, and 400,000 healthcare workers had been registered to get inoculated in the first phase.

Moreover, Pakistan may get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine till March under the World Health Organisation’s COVAX programme. The global initiative has signed an agreement with the American pharmaceutical to buy up to 40 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine. The WHO has already approved the vaccine for emergency use.
