The National Assembly secretariat has served a notice on PML-N MNA Shahid Khaqan Abbasi “to explain his conduct” in a heated exchange of words with Speaker Asad Qaiser on Tuesday.

The notice has been issued under the Rule 21 of the National Assembly’s Code of Conduct on the instructions of the speaker.

“Your conduct caused hurdle in smooth holding of the house proceedings and interrupted the session,” the notice issued on Wednesday reads.

“By impeding the house proceedings, you also ridiculed the office of the Speaker,” it added.

The notice sought an apology from Abbasi within seven days. “If you failed to respond, it will be deemed you have nothing to say in your defence,” reads the notice.

The National Assembly session summoned Tuesday to table a resolution on French ambassador witnessed an ugly incident when former prime minister Abbasi went to the rostrum and started talking to the speaker in “unparliamentary language.”

The PML-N leader even threatened the speaker that he will take off his shoe and hit him.

While speaking on the floor of the lower house, Abbasi criticised the government for not taking the opposition into confidence on the resolution.

During his address, he lashed out at Speaker Asad Qaiser and went to the rostrum where harsh words were exchanged.
