The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), the body responsible for managing the COVID-19 situation in the country has cancelled its earlier order which asked the authorities to impose lockdown in cities that are reporting a high number of cases.

The notifications said, “Our letter No. 812/A/ NCOC dated 27th April 2021 may please be treated as cancelled.”

On April 27, the NCOC had sought input from different ministries and city administrations on the tentative plan to impose a complete lockdown from next week in the 20 cities except for Karachi.

“Two weeks city-wise lockdown in districts and cities with high disease prevalence is tentatively planned with effect from 2 or 3 May 20201,” said an internal memo of the NCOC.

The memo was sent to city administrations and different ministries to seek their input. The two weeks complete lockdown is tentatively planned for 20 cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Muzaffarabad.
