ISLAMABAD: South Korea has donated 600,000 medical masks to the Pakistan for distribution among Afghan refugees and others across Pakistan, particularly those who are in direct contact with the people testing positive for COVID-19 and patients.

An Acknowledgment Certificate was signed on Monday between Korea, Pakistan and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) here.

The UNHCR will distribute the masks all over the country through its warehouse at Azakhel area of Nowshera, Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa.

Ministry of Economic Affairs Secretary Noor Ahmed welcomed Korean Ambassador H.E. Suh Sangpyo and representative from UNHCR Ms. Noriko Yoshida at the signing ceremony.

Secretary Noor Ahmed also acknowledged the Korean government the financial assistance for flood relief COVID-19 pandemic and thanked the Korean government.

Ambassador Suh Sangpyo acknowledged the efforts of government of Pakistan for proactive approach to combat COVID-19 pandemic in the country in a coordinated manner with federal and provincial governments.

Ms. Noriko Yoshida acknowledged the Korean assistance for refuges in Pakistan and the role of government of Pakistan for mitigating their sufferings across the country.
