Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) dismissed four of its senior members for their controversial statements against the party. In the oust that took place on Friday, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Gul Naseeb, Maulana Shujaul Mulk and Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani were expelled on the grounds of their deviation “from the party policy” and for “creating party within the party”.

The party’s former senior leader, Khan Sherani had stated earlier that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has been set up for “personal gains,” adding that “Maulana Fazlur Rehman himself is selected. How can he taunt and call Imran Khan and others selected?”

“If any of the four leaders clarify their case and apologise for what they have done, then the committee has the right to make a decision in that regard,” the party’s spokesperson stated.

The development comes after major differences were identified between senior leaders of JUI-F and chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also heads the opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

“Everyone [in the alliance] is struggling to come to power. Each party in the opposition alliance has its own set of interests,” Sherani had previously said, terming PDM as an ‘unnatural alliance’.
