Federal Minister for Planning and head of the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), Asad Umar on Friday said that there are clear signs of emergence of the fourth wave in Pakistan. Umar said that the main reason for this is poor compliance from the people.

The minister took to Twitter and said that now there are “clear early signs of 4th wave starting” in the country due to “poor SOP compliance, coupled with the spread of variants of concern, Indian variant, in particular, are the main cause”.

In the last 24 hours, the country registered 19 fatalities due to COVID-19 while 1,737 people tested positive, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). Most casualties were seen in the province of Sindh followed by Punjab.

As of July 9, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 35,573. On Friday, 47,528 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 16,102; Punjab: 17,196; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): 9,547; Islamabad(ICT): 1,978; Balochistan: 1,397; Gilgit-Baltistan(GB): 475 and Azad Kashmir (AJK): 833.

Out of 1,756 ventilators reserved for COVID-19 patients in the country, 210 ventilators are currently occupied. There is no patient on the ventilator in AJK, GB, and Balochistan. So far, Pakistan has seen a total of 907,934 recoveries.

A total of 969,476 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 22,520; Balochistan: 27,781; GB: 6,700; ICT: 82,400, KP: 139,008; Punjab: 347,553 and Sindh: 344,233.

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 22,520 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 10,805 casualties followed by Sindh: 5,566 KP: 4,348; Islamabad: 782; Balochistan: 317; GB: 111 and AJK: 591.

639 hospitals in Pakistan are equipped with COVID-19 facilities with 2,244 patients being treated across the country. A total of 14,960,221 tests have been conducted so far in the country since the pandemic started.
