Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed sadness over the lives lost in the flash flood in Uttarakhand, India. In a statement posted to the ministry’s official Twitter account, spokesperson of the Foreign Office (FO) Mr Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said: “Saddened over loss of precious lives due to flash floods caused by glacier break-off in Uttarakhand. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims.”

“We pray for the safety and early rescue and recovery of those missing,” he added.

Around 140 people went missing, with nine confirmed dead, when part of a Himalayan glacier broke off and triggered massive landslides and flash floods in the Indian region of Uttarkhand. Large-scale rescue operations have been underway since Sunday, with more than 2,000 members of the military, paramilitary groups and police taking part in the search-and-rescue operation.
