After the Pakistan Democratic Alliance’s (PDM) display of strength at Gujranwala on Friday night, Ministers Fawad Chaudhry, Faraz Shibli and Sheikh Rasheed have come forward to critique the opposition in grim words.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday said the rally damaged the opposition rather than being beneficial. He also said in a tweet that the opposition parties failed to create an impression and according to independent analysts, only 15,000 to 18,000 people attended the gathering.

Referring to the speeches by the opposition leaders, Fawad said that substandard language was used in the speeches and an unsuccessful attempt was made to form a front against the country’s institutions.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz declared the show as ‘flopped’. The Opposition parties have failed to gather a few thousand people in their first public meeting, he stated while talking to a private television channel.

Shibli further added that the opposition only wants to protect their personal interests and there is “no unity in the opposition alliance as JUI-F Chief Fazlur Rehman was asked to address the attendees when most had left.”

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed came at former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, saying he would suffer the same fate as MQM founder Altaf Hussain for denunciating the military leadership.

“Your political funeral will come from London. Your politics will not thrive in Pakistan now,” said the federal minister, speaking at a news conference in Lahore.

The railways minister challenged the PML-N to resign from the assemblies if they are serious in their campaign against the government. “Hand in your resignations. You will know where you stand,” he said.

Rasheed said that Nawaz was playing a dangerous game against the Pakistan Army, slamming the former prime minister of towing the line of international powers by tarnishing the image of the armed forces.
