The Federal Cabinet today approved the payment of Rs 403 billion to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), among other major decisions. The cabinet also approved an increase in the salaries of government employees.

Of the Rs 403 billion, the government will be paying Rs 122 billion in interest payments, Rs 72 billion to oil suppliers like Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Rs 700 billion to IPPs, and Rs 600 billion to generation companies (GENCOs), confirmed Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz.

Furthermore, the cabinet approved the selection of Masroor Khan as the head of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The minister also announced that Rana Riaz Mathar has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Balochistan.

The cabinet has also approved setting up new 30 Accountability Courts and a three-month extension in the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement. Additionally, the cabinet approved the installation of cameras inside 80 sugar mills.

The cabinet also discussed the upcoming Senate Election. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he wanted to see fair and free senate elections where votes were not bought.
