The opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has decided to cancel rallies in Sargodha and Khuzdar and concentrating on the March 3 Senate elections and the planned long march.

Insiders said on Sunday that PDM chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman called on PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to discuss future strategy of the alliance.

They said that both the leaders decided to cancel the rallies planned to be taken out in Sargodha on February 23 and in Khuzdar on February 27 to “prepare for the Senate elections and the long march.”

The Maulana asked the component parties of the alliance to “gear up preparations for the Senate elections and long march.”

MAULANA CRITICISED: Meanwhile, the expelled leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) criticised party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and pledged to reform the party.

Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulk and others were addressing a Seerat Conference at Chakdara on Sunday.

Maulana Sherani said they were expelled from the party unconstitutionally.

He announced to reorganise the party the banner of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Pakistan and urged workers to set up its offices throughout the province.

Maulana Sherani criticised Maulana Fazal for cancelling a planned rally and announced to hold a rally in Lakki Marwat on March 1.

He said the expelled leaders had served the party for the last 40 years and it was their party.

Criticising Maulana Fazal, Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulk put a question to the gathering that who will be the prime minister if Imran Khan is ousted. Many people said Maryam Nawaz or Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He questioned again that had the JUI not been formed for that purpose.

He claimed that Maulana Fazal was deceiving the workers in the name of Pakistan Democratic Movement.

Maulana Gul Naseeb said family politics had ruined the party.

He said one brother is the central chief, the other is provincial chief while the third brother is district chief.
