The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared the result of by-polls in NA-75 void and ordered re-elections in the entire constituency of Daska, district Sialkot.

The ECP announced its reserved verdict in Islamabad on Thursday. A five-member ECP bench headed by the chief election commissioner heard the case and the decision was announced in the presence of the candidates. The ECP ordered that re-elections be held in Daska on March 18.

The order was issued using the powers conferred to the ECP under Article 218 (3) of the Constitution and Article 19 (1) of the Election Act, 2017.

The order noted that

It noted that “on the day of the election, chaos was spread in the entire constituency.”

The ECP had withheld the decision of polling in NA-75 after 20 presiding officers in the constituency ‘went missing’ for several hours, which led to allegations of rigging.
