Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali passed away on December 2 in Rawalpindi, as confirmed by his relative Senator Sana Jamali. Jamali served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from November 2002 to June 2003.

Jamali had suffered a heart attack last week, and was shifted to Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology & National Institute of Heart Diseases (AFIC-NIHD) in Rawalpindi for treatment. He spent his last days on ventilator as the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital. He was 76 when he passed.

Condolences began pouring in for the former premier soon after the news of his demise.

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his sadness over the passing, and extended his prayers to Jamali’s family.

President Dr Arif Alvi also expressed his grief over Jamali’s demise, and prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, also expressed his condolences.

“May Allah bless his soul & give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen,” said the COAS.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall Mujahid Anwar Khan said that “the contributions of Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali for Pakistan will always be remembered.”

“May Allah give him the highest ranks in heaven & may He give the bereaved family patience to bear the loss,” said prominent Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen.

In her Tweet of condolence, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari acknowledged Jamali’s political seniority by calling him “one of the last of the old-breed of politicians.”

President Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal also tweeted his condolences to the Jamali family.

“Deeply grieved at the death of Mir Zafarullah Jamali, former PM of Pakistan. A true gentleman full of humour and wit. Will be missed. May his soul RIP,” said federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan also posted his prayer of condolence on Twitter.

Jamali is the only Pakistani prime minister to have been elected from Balochistan province. He served during the military regime of General Pervez Musharraf, until his resignation was sought in 2004.

Details of his funeral proceedings have not yet been released.
