Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Executive Officer Air Marshal Arshad Malik has said that the national carrier has so far paid compensation to the kin of 20 passenger who died in a plane crash last year.

Briefing Sindh Governor Imran Ismail about the relief efforts by PIA, he said Rs10 million per passenger were paid to 20 people while others cases are in process.

He said PIA has given Rs1 million as burial charges to the families of all the passengers who died in the crash.

Air Marshal Arshad Malik said that all but four people whose houses were damaged in the plane crash have been paid full settlement.

He said that PIA was facing constraints like legal requirements of succession certificates, dispute amongst the family members and reluctance in filing succession certificates while few families are reluctant to sign release and discharge deed.

Governor Imran Ismail was apprised about certain elements who were misleading the families in terms of insurance claim which is also hindering the process of final settlement.

The governor appreciated the efforts of PIA management in providing relief and settling the compensations and hoped that the entire process will be completed soon.

He directed the PIA management to increase baggage compensation by an additional Rs100,000 to be given to the next of kin.
