Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has said there is no chance of a no-confidence against him.

Talking to media in Chiniot after announcing an Rs5.6 billion development package for the district on Tuesday, Buzdar said he is not afraid of a no-confidence against him.

Referring to much hyped move by the PPP against him after Eid-ul-Fitr, the chief minister said he would devise his strategy if a no-confidence resolution was tabled.

PPP parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly Syed Hassan Murtaza has, in the meantime, said that the opposition will give a surprise in the Punjab on Eid, a possible reference to a no-trust against Chief Minister Buzdar.

On the other hand, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has denied any move in the Punjab to dislodge the chief minister.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the minister said there is no chance of a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Buzdar.

Sheikh Rasheed said Usman Buzdar has the backing of Prime Minister Imran Khan, so no conspiracy against him will be successful.

Replying to a question, the interior minister said the People’s Party (PPP) has been floating such ideas, but it seems “highly unlikely” that it will go for the kill.

HASSAN MURTAZA: Earlier, PPP leader Syed Hassan Murtaza, in a video message, claimed that 25 to 30 members of the ruling PTI were endorsing the stance of opposition regarding change in Punjab.

He said the PPP leadership has decided to contact opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz in this regard.

Murtaza said the PPP will stand by the PML-N candidate for the high office in Punjab.

It may be recalled that the PPP had suggested to the PML-N for an in-house change in Punjab in November last.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ata Tarar termed the statement of Hassan Murtaza “frivolous” and asked him to present the road map for the in-house change.
