The federal cabinet approves deploying Rangers in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Bahawalnagar for an indefinite period to ensure Law and Order situation. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said in a press conference that the para-military forces will be deployed in the four cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Bahwalnagar.

The Government of Punjab followed through with the directives of the federal government.

Punjab government ordered the deployment of Rangers alongside the police at 16 crucial points of the provincial capital amid religious party’s protest

The decision was made in an important meeting held in Lahore with Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat chairing the meeting. The meeting also reviewed situation of protests being staged in the province especially in Lahore.

The paramilitary force will be positioned alongside police outside CM Secretariat, GOR-I, Civil Secretariat, Governor House, Punjab Assembly and IG Office.

Moreover, police and Rangers will conduct joint patrols on Lahore’s Mall Road and Canal Road. Those who would take the law in their hands will be arrested immediately and booked in a case. However, assistance from Pakistan Army can be sought if situation worsens.

Talking to media, Raja Basharat said no one is above the law, the routes leading to the hospitals would be kept clear, he added.
