Seven coal miners were killed in an explosion in Balochistan, following a methane gas fire. The accumulation of methane in a mine located in the Torghar gas field led to a fatal explosion, Deputy Commissioner Sohail Anwar Hashmi told Reuters.

The workers involved in the blast were mining at a depth of approximately 1,500 feet when the incident occurred, the Chief Inspector of Mines revealed to Reuters.

This explosion marks the second mining accident over the course of a week in the region.

On March 12, Balochistan reported the deaths of six coal miners out of the eight that were trapped 1000 feet underground. Officials stated that the eruption was caused by a build-up of methane gas.

In 2020 alone, over 99 coal miners died in 72 different mining accidents in the Balochistan district, according to official government data.
