Uncertainty prevails on the question of dissolution of provincial assemblies as Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) leader Moonis Elahi has reportedly persuaded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leaders to delay the dissolution of Punjab Assembly.
As announced earlier by ex-premier Imran, he has to declare the fate of the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies on Saturday (today). But, insiders claimed that Moonis had convinced several PTI leaders to delay the decision as the PML-N would benefit from it”.
According to a news channel, Imran agreed to Moonis’s stance but didn’t give his final decision about the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
Insiders said that after a meeting with the PTI chief, Moonis had met separately with other PTI leaders and reportedly convinced them to delay the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
It is claimed that three of five leaders agreed to Moonis.
Meanwhile, it is also claimed that the president is also against immediate dissolution of assemblies, However, the final call will be of Imran.
Insiders said that Moonis expressed the fear in meeting with Imran that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government could victimise the PTI and the PML-Q leadership if the assemblies were dissolved.
The development came on Thursday during the meeting of a PMLQ delegation, headed by Moonis, with Imran in Lahore as political activity heats up in the country ahead of the dissolution of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies.
“You are authorised to make a final decision on assembly dissolution,” the source conveyed the message of Parvez Elahi to Imran.
The PML-Q leader reassured the former premier that the assembly would be dissolved whenever “you ask for it.”
Moonis, however, suggested that it was not an appropriate time for the dissolution of the assemblies. He told Imran that a majority of his party’s lawmakers wanted the continuation of development work in their areas.
SEAT ADJUSTMENT: Sources privy to the matter said the PML-Q had demanded seat adjustment in 25 constituencies with the PTI before the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly. Maintaining its separate identity, the PMLQ wants to go with the PTI in electoral politics, they said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Elahi dashed to Islamabad on Friday afternoon on a special plane, held an important meeting there and flew back after ninety minutes to Lahore.
Sources said that Elahi also consulted PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain after returning from Islamabad and the latter advised him not to dissolve the assembly.
It is learnt that the PTI was desperately trying to contact Elahi late in the evening. The fresh consultations could delay dissolution of the two assemblies by Imran.
It is expected that Chief Minister Elahi would visit Zaman Park today (Saturday) to take Imran into confidence about the rationale of his party leaders.
Sources said that it was unlikely that the PTI members would quit the Punjab Assembly because in that case the province would conveniently go in the lap of the PML-N.
