Monitoring Desk: Taliban Welcomed US President’s tweet about withdrawal of U.S troops by Christmas. Taliban called it a “positive step.”

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement, “Islamic Emirate welcomes these remarks and considers it a positive step for the implementation of the agreement signed between the IEA and the U.S.”

President Trump tweeted yesterday saying all U.S. troops in Afghanistan “should [be] home by Christmas.”

US and Taliban are directly discussing power sharing formula in Doha. Recently, Afghan government and Taliban discussed future court of action. Pakistan had facilitated Afghan government and Taliban for direct talks.

In February, US and Taliban signed an agreement in Doha which envisioned a plan to pull out foreign forces from Afghanistan to end two decades of war.

National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said that under 5,000 U.S. troops are in Afghanistan and that will go to 2,500 by early next year.
