Prime Minister Imran Khan meets Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in New York on September 25, 2019.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates arrived in Islamabad on a day-long visit on Thursday morning.

He was welcomed by government officials at Pakistan Air Force Base Nur Khan.

He is scheduled to meet President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan later in the day.

The Microsoft founder will also visit the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and Covid treatment facility in Chak Shahzad Hospital. He will be briefed on the government’s polio eradication programme.

In January 2021, Gates lauded the efforts made by Pakistan to eradicate polio and the Covid vaccine drive.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had told him about the efforts to intensify the anti-polio campaign, despite challenges related to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The philanthropist had assured the continued support from his foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Pakistan has received more than three million doses of Covid vaccines through the COVAX programme by different donors including the Gates’ foundation.
