A Telegram bot is selling phone numbers of 500 million Facebook users, a website Motherboard reported on Tuesday.
“A user of a low-level cybercriminal forum is selling access to a database of phone numbers belonging to Facebook users, and conveniently letting customers look up those numbers by using an automated Telegram bot,” Motherboard reported.
“In early 2020 a vlunerability that enabled seeing the phone number linked to every Facebook account was exploited, creating detabase containing the information 533m users across all countries,” Alon Gal, cyber security researcher said. He said that the data includes numbers of around 6 lakh Indian users.
According to the Motherboard, the data is several years old but it still “presents a cybersecurity and privacy risk to those whose phone numbers may be exposed.”
