Expressing her strong stance against domestic violence, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has returned her Lux Style Award (LSA) in protest against nominating Feroze Khan for this year’s event.
In an Instagram post, Chinoy says she is quite a vocal person about domestic abuse and she can’t stay quiet when a domestic abuser is nominated for the latest awards.
Therefore, Chinoy announced her decision to return her award which she won in 2012. She said, “Lux is a beauty brand which sells soaps to women yet it has chosen to allow the nomination of a man known to have violently abused his ex-wife.”
“Its parent company Unilever has a global campaign that says no to domestic violence and campaigns against it. The company has signed up to the United Nation SDGs, including SDG 5 on gender equality. Its offices in Pakistan however, do not appear to share the same values….,” the award-winning director said.
Chinoy recalled that she won the LSA for Lifetime Achievement and added that she would send the same back the Unilever as a brand and she no longer share the same values.
“As a society, we must stand together against domestic violence and we must call out those who provide platforms to abusers,” she stressed.
“Unilever and Lux have done a disservice to the awards and the society,” she made it clear and added that it wasn’t okay them to allow the celebration of abusers.
Syeda Aliza opted for divorce, citing domestic abuse at the hands of Feroze. She also presented the medical evidence of that before a court in Karachi.
Feroze has received a nomination for Best Actor, Male, Viewers’ Choice in Lux Style Awards for Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 3.
