Former president and PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to meet JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, who also heads the multi-party opposition alliance the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), on Monday (today).

According to insiders, the meeting is the part of the opposition’s drive to remove the PTI-led government through a no-confidence motion. The JUI-F chief would also host a dinner in honour of the PPP co-chairperson at his residence in Islamabad, they added.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the no-trust move as well as the strategy for the opposition parties reaching out to the government’s allies for this purpose.

The meeting between the two leaders will be the first after PPP’s exit from the PDM. Despite the fact that almost all major opposition parties are on the same page to bring the no-confidence motion, the roadmap is yet to be finalised. The meeting is likely to discuss the modus operandi regarding a no-confidence motion, which is likely to be tabled by opposition parties in near future.

The PPP had parted ways with the PDM last year after serious differences over the issue of mass resignations from the assemblies and a row with the PML-N over the office of the opposition leader in the Senate.

However, in November last, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif reached out to the PPP in a bid to join forces against the PTI-led government.

Earlier this month, the PML-N and the PPP agreed to make joint efforts and use every option at their disposal to oust the Prime Minister Imran Khan-led regime including moving a no-trust motion against the government.
