Leaders of three opposition parties have termed the amendments to Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) through presidential ordinance an attempt to impose “fascism and dictatorship” in the country in a joint statement issued on Tuesday.

The joint statement was issued after a meeting between People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz League (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting was also attended by PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and JUI’s Maulana Asad Mahmood.

Shehbaz, along with a PML-N delegation, met Asif Zardari at Bilawal House in Lahore to discuss the economic situation of the country as well as the ‘no-confidence’ motion and other options, it added.

They agreed that they would work hard to fulfill the aspirations of the people and would give results soon.

According to the statement, the leaders held an “important conversation” over their plans to bring about a no-confidence motion against the PTI government.

All the leaders agreed that inflation has made the lives of common people miserable and they could only be saved by sending the incumbent government home.

The statement said that the leaders also expressed concern over “cheating and lawlessness” in the country. The government has failed to save lives property and meet the basic needs of the people, it said.

“We will snatch the power from the leaders who are snatching freedom of media and expression,” said the opposition leaders in the statement.

The statement also said that Asif Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif, Fazal-ur-Rehman and Bilawal have agreed to hold a joint meeting on Wednesday afternoon at Shehbaz’s residence.
