The PTI and PML-Q have agreed to join hands to strengthen the movement against the “imported government” and bring to justice the dissident members of the former ruling party.

The decision was taken during a meeting between PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Lahore on Monday. Qureshi’s son Zain Qureshi and former federal minister Moonis Elahi were also present on the occasion.

Both the leaders discussed the current political situation in the country and matters of mutual interest, including the PTI’s movement against the government.

The lawyers attending the meeting briefed Qureshi and Elahi about their under-trial cases in courts, de-seating of dissident members and oath-taking of Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab chief minister.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Elahi said the PTI should immediately announce its candidates for the by-elections.

“We will fully support Imran Khan in bringing the dissidents to justice,” he said, adding that institutions should play their role to “prevent catastrophe in the country”.

“Judicial decisions will be a turning point in Pakistan’s politics.”

The Punjab Assembly speaker noted that the present government had “badly failed” to rein in inflation.

“The claimants of good governance [should] now show us how to control inflation and load-shedding. Pakistan belongs to all of us. Every Pakistani must come out together for real freedom.”

Elahi said the election and oath of “so-called child chief minister Hamza Shehbaz” were not valid both constitutionally and legally.

“He (Hamza) is ruling only on the shoulders of police and chief secretary. The child ruler mistreated women during the independence march,” he said.
