Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, their first meeting after the premier was elected to the office.

“Professional matters pertaining to national security were discussed during the meeting,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The meeting came amid an increase in attacks on security forces along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, resulting in the martyrdom of soldiers over the weeks.

Earlier, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said the army chief could not attend the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Shehbaz because he was not feeling well.
