The third wave of coronavirus is spreading rapidly across the country, warned Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Faisal Sultan on Saturday. He added that pressure on hospitals is increasing as ventilator and oxygen supplies come under strain. He cautioned Punjab especially, saying the virus is rampant across the province.

In the last 24 hours, 3,876 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan while 42 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). This is the third consecutive day the number of positive cases has been above 3000.

Once again, the highest number of deaths were recorded in Punjab, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)

As of March 20, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 29,576. Yesterday, 40,946 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 10,445; Punjab:15,212; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP):7,753; Islamabad(ICT):5,958; Balochistan:362; Gilgit-Baltistan(GB):330 and Azad Kashmir(AJK):886

A total of 623,135 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 11483; Balochistan:19306; GB:4967; ICT:50,843, KPK:78,653; Punjab:19,5087 and Sindh:26,2796.

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 13,799 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 5,944 casualties followed by Sindh:4478; KPK:2,202; Islamabad: 539; Balochistan: 203; GB: 103 and AJK: 330.
