Swat’s Saidu Sharif Airport became operational on Friday, March 26, after 17 years. The airport was shut down in the wake of terrorism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, after which flights were restricted only to Peshawar and Islamabad.

Pakistan International Airline’s flight operations from Islamabad and Lahore to Swat’s airport commenced today. Federal Minister Murad Seed stated that international operations are also likely to begin. Addressing the media at the inauguration of Saidu Sharif, the Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan for uplifting the Malakand region and improving areas related to infrastructure, health, and education.

Saidu Sharif Airport is situated close to the Swat River, nestled between the villages of Dherai and Kanju in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
