The Punjab government, on Sunday, has announced to have achieved its wheat procurement target of 3.5 million tonnes this year. 

According to the issued details, the provincial government has paid over Rs170 billion to the farmers to procure 3,685,669 tonnes of the commodity which is 105.3 per cent of the government target.

As per procurement details, Bahawalpur division produced most of the wheat, with Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan securing second and third spots.

The department bought 665,643 tonnes of the grain from Bahawalpur, 552,000 tonnes from Multan and 530,000 tonnes from DG Khan divisions.

Whereas 497,000 tonnes of wheat was procured from Faisalabad, 445,000 tonnes from Gujranwala, 345,000 tonnes from Sahiwal, 342,210 tonnes from Lahore and 302,204 tonnes from Sargodha division.

Moreover, the most rain-fed area,  Rawalpindi division, contributed just 7,872 tonnes of wheat to the food department.
