A Hindu god and construction material has been placed on a piece of land which is registered as a waqf property and belongs to a mosque and madrassa in the documents of the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Board of Waqfs.
A complaint has been filed by the Masjid Committee member Junaid Ahmad against the illegal intended construction of a Shiv temple on a mosque’s land on August 31.
The complaint pointed out Councillor Jitendra Singh as the leader of the procession who committed the mischief on the night of August 30th when they were celebrating ‘Janmashtami’.
Ahmad in the complaint said, “It is to be noted that councillor Jitendra has been making an attempt to encroach the above-mentioned land. This complainant is about these attempts of encroachment with the municipal officers in Ghatampur and Kanpur DM. We also complained about them about the construction of the temple on the land,”
Abdul Quddus, Qazi of Kanpur city informed the media that the name of the mosque is Masjid-e-Arqam which had additional land in the vicinity and that the local people had planned to construct a mosque on the land.
Abdul Quddus added that upon checking the documents of the concerned mosque they had appeared to be authentic.
Quddus along with locals recently met with the ADG, Kanpur, who asked the SDM, Kanpur, to look into the matter. The Qazi said that initially SDM had ordered an inquiry but later upon inquiry the Inspector of Ghatampur police station Tam Avtar stated that the matter was beyond police jurisdiction and that SDM and the revenue department were looking into the matter.
Abdul Quddus said that such incidents were deliberately being staged to spur communal hatred among different religious ethnicities, adding that the mosques, madrassas, and graveyards were the supreme targets of these “communal forces”.
“Several such incidents have occurred in recent times. We are doing our best to avoid any communal tension…but we are worried about it. They are eyeing Muslim properties with ill-intention.” Abdul Quddus added.
