The Las Bambas mine is one of the largest in the world

A bus transporting workers in the Peruvian Andes has fallen off a cliff, killing at least 15 and injuring 3.

The workers were being transported to MMG Ltd’s Las Bambas copper mine. Peruvian radio RPP reported that the accident occurred in the Cotabambas province in Peru’s Apurimac region.

The bus was reported to have fallen about 200 meters (656 feet). Such incidents are not uncommon in Peru.

At least 48 people were killed in 2018 after a bus they were traveling in fell 100 meters (328 feet) off a cliff onto a rocky beach.

In November 2017, a bus fell off a bridge and into a river in the Southern Andes killing 20.

The Las Bambas mine is one of the largest in Peru, a country that stands as the world’s second-largest copper producer.
