KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday assured the business communities of Pakistan of resolution of their “genuine issues” as he extended his full support for industrialisation in Pakistan.

Talking to a delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) that called on the army chief ahead of the budget, General Bajwa said the army would support efforts for uplifting of the economy.

The delegation included Businessmen Panel (BMP) Chairman Mian Anjum Nisar, FPCCI Senior VP Khawaja Shahzeb Akram FPCCI VP Ather Sultan Chawla, ex-FPCCI VP Juma Khan and ex-LCCI president Irfan Iqbal Sheikh.

Ather Sultan Chawla, FPPCI vice president, told The Correspondent that Gen Bajwa had assured businesspersons of continued support for the industrialisation and asked them to come forward for enhancing exports so that the country could meet the economic challenges.

The FPCCI delegation and the army chief discussed the “evolving regional economic environment” as well as the FPCCI’s role in the development of commercial and industrial hubs in Pakistan, he added.

During the meeting, Gen Bajwa appreciated the role of the business community in the economic uplift of the country and affirmed all-out support of the army in this regard.

The delegation, meanwhile, acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s role and sacrifices in the provision of a “secure enabling environment” for economic prosperity in the country.

A business delegation of top businessmen of Karachi had met the army chief at the Corps Headquarters in Karachi in September last year and took up various issues, including the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC), high cost of land in Karachi, problems in exports, and production activities, as well as lack of industrialisation.
